Updated document to modify affected server products and to add note in Scope section

In rare instances, on an HP ProLiant Gen9 series server, the Smart Array controller will detect an HP Hard Disk Drive (HDD) as a non-HP drive. This occurs due to a Smart Carrier authentication failure in the SAS expander firmware.

After hot-plugging the Smart Carrier, the bay that the hard drive is inserted in will not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive. In addition, the Smart Array controller will not control the LED to the drive. When this occurs, the following message will be displayed:

1709-Slot # Drive Array - One or more attached drives could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive. Smart Array will not control the LEDs to these drives. Please run HP Smart Storage Administrator (HP SSA) or ACU to learn which drives could not be validated as genuine.

This occurs only when an HDD is inserted or reseated when the server is running. If the HDD is left in the bay and the server is rebooted, the warning messages will be cleared.

SCOPE

Note: This issue does not affect ProLiant XL250a Gen9 or ProLiant XL230a Gen9 servers because these systems do not contain a SAS Expander.

RESOLUTION
